Hon'ble Dr. Justice Arijit Pasayat, Judge, Supreme Court of India and Chairman, Academic Council, ILI was conferred with a Degree of LL.D. (Honoris Causa) by Fakir Mohan University, Vyasa Vihar, Balasore.

Prof. K.N. Chandrasekharan Pillai, Director, ILI was conferred the Capital Foundation Award for his contribution in the field of legal education in the SAARC Region.

Professor K.N. Chandrasekharan Pillai, Director, ILI has been nominated by Government of India as Part-time member of  the 18th Law Commission of India.

ACTIVITES AT THE INSTITUTE

Release of Book on "Services Under the State" (Revised and Updated)

The book titled "Services under the State" (Revised and Updated) published on 04.02.2008. This prestigious publication of the Indian Law Institute has its genesis in the original book written by the illustrious author Justice Rama Jois, former Chief Justice of Punjab and Haryana High Court. Later it came to be updated and ably edited by another illustrious authority, Prof. Upendra Baxi, the then Research Director of the ILI and former Vice-Chancellor of South Gujarat University and Delhi University.  When all the copies of Second Edition had been sold out, the book has been revised and updated by the Research Faculty of ILI.  The book provides an overall understanding of civil services jurisprudence.  It is an authoritative exposition of adjudicative law as well as a critique of it, helping its future renovation. The book is useful to judges, lawyers, professors of law and students. Affiliation 

Hon’ble Chief Justice of India/President, ILI approved the affiliation of Dr. Girish Kumar, Lecturer, School of International Relations, M.G. University, Kottayam, Kerala with the Indian Law Institute to undertake research on the topic ‘WTO Dispute Settlement Mechanism and its Treatment of Special & Differential Treatment Principles: A Study on India’s Experience (1955-2004)’ in association with Indian Council of Social Sciences Research, New Delhi.


ACADEMIC PROGRAMMES

Monitoring of Progress of Ph.D. Candidates

The Ph.D. students  made presentation of the progress of their work on 8th February, 2008 before the monitoring committee.  Ms. Pratima Sharma and Ms. Versha Vahini (both of 2005 batch) made their presentations before the committee.

Special Lectures for LL.M. Students 

-     Mr. Justice R.V. Raveendran, Judge Supreme Court of India delivered a lecture on January 4, 2008 to the LL.M. Students on the topic ‘Law and Practice’. 

-     Mr. Justice Padmaraj, Chairman, Railway Claims Tribunal delivered a lecture on ‘Legal Profession’ on February 22, 2008. 

-     Mr. Justice S. Muralidhar, Judge, High Court of Delhi delivered a lecture on the topic ‘Law and Poverty’ on March 7, 2008.

 LL.M. Examination 2007 

The end semester examinations for both 1st and 3rd Semester students of the LL.M. Programme –2007 was conducted from 7th to 19th December 2007. The results were declared on January 14, 2008.

Conduct of Annual Examinations - 2008 

The dates of Annual Examinations of  all Post Graduate Diploma Courses for the session 2007-2008 to be held from 10.4.2008 to 23.4.2008 have been notified.

E-learning Course on IPRs

The 10th Batch of the E-Learning Course on IPRs was concluded on 14th March, 2008.

The admissions to the 11th batch of E-Learning course were started and the last date for submission of application was March 17, 2008.  More than 243 candidates have been  enrolled for the current  batch.

ADR Project 

 
A meeting was held in the office of Shri T.K. Viswanathan, Law Secretary for the review of progress made in the World Bank assisted  ADR project from ICADR for conducting study for strengthening of Alternate Dispute Resolution in India.

FACULTY NEWS 

-         Prof. S. Sivakumar, Research Professor has participated in the Judicial Reforms Seminar organised by Confederation of Indian Bar on 23rd & 24th February, 2008.       

-           Ms. Jaya V.S.,  Assistant Research Professor, contributed an article titled ‘Finality and Enforcement of Foreign Arbitral Awards: Reflections on the Indian Arbitration Law’ in Asia Law Review (Volume 4, No.2 December 2007, Pp.31-52) published by KLRI.
