1.   Ph.D.                                                                                  (5 Intake)

2.  LL.M.
                                                                                   (30* Intake) *
Additional five seats may be created for foreign students/NRIs

Eligibility :  LL.B. Degree (with not less than 50% marks) recognized by Bar Council of India as eligible for enrolment as an advocate in India.      or       A Law Degree from a foreign country with at least 50% marks in aggregate or equivalent grade.

The candidates appearing in the qualifying examinations are also eligible to apply but their admission will be subject to production of proof of having acquired minimum prescribed qualification, at the time of admission. If the result of the qualifying examination is not declared till the date of admission, his/her admission shall be provisional. Such candidate shall give an undertaking that he/she is taking the provisional admission at his/her risk and that he/she shall submit the result of qualifying examination on or before 30.09.2009. In case the candidate fails to submit his/her final result of qualifying examination to prove his/her eligibility on or before 30.09.2009 for any reason whatsoever, his/her admission shall be treated as cancelled and the entire fee forfeited.

 
Duration, Continuation and Termination of the LL.M. Course: The duration of the course is 2 years comprising of 4 semesters. However the students have an option to complete the course within one and a half years under special circumstances with the prior approval of the Academic Programme Committee. In such a case, the student has to produce publishable research papers & dissertation before he/she could be granted the leave to finish the entire course in 1½ years. Students would be graded out of the maximum 1500 marks as per teaching scheme. The following guidelines have been prescribed by the Institute for the students to exercise the option of completing the LL.M. Course within one and a half years:– (i) 'Special Circumstances’ means a student who has an exceptional academic record, securing at least 65% marks in the aggregate in the first two semesters, with over 60% marks in each paper, and having passed all the papers in the first attempt. In addition the student must have secured 80% attendance in each of the first two semesters, (ii) A student whose research papers have been published or accepted for publication in a reputed journal/ publication, and (iii) A student who has secured over 70% marks in at least two out of three research papers submitted in the first two semesters. A student opting for early completion of the LL.M. Course must also submit a synopsis, which in the opinion of the Academic Programmes Committee is very good. Students who fulfil all the above criteria may be permitted to submit their dissertation early, but not later than December 31st of the third semester of the year on the recommendation of the Academic Programme Committee.

Regular classes will be held in ILI from Monday to Friday from 9.30 a.m. onwards.

Three seats over and above the sanctioned intake in each PG Diploma course for the Defence Services Officers subject to fulfilment of eligibility criteria.


Eligibility:

Minimum qualification for admission to the P.G.Diploma Courses except for Labour Law is a graduate degree from a recognised University. 5% weightage will be given to the law graduates for admission to the Post Graduate Diploma Courses. The minimum requirement for admission to the PG Diploma Course in Labour Law is a law degree or M.A. in Social Sciences (IInd Division).

The Defence Service Officers holding graduate degree of an Indian University or an equivalent degree from a Foreign University are considered for admission to the P.G. Diploma in Labour Law provided they are sponsored by the Directorate of Resettlement, Ministry of Defence, Government of India.

Candidates who have passed or appeared in the 4th year examination of LL.B. (five year course) from a recognised institute/university are also eligible for admission to Post Graduate Diploma Courses (except for Labour Law). Five seats each are reserved for these students. The admission will be made based on the marks obtained in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd year of the University examinations.

Attendance is compulsory. A candidate admitted to the course is required to attend 60% of the total number of lectures delivered. Classes will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. in the ILI. Medium of instruction and examination of all the courses shall be English. Admission to the Post Graduate Diploma Courses shall be made on merit prepared on the basis of marks obtained in the qualifying examination as per the eligibility for individual Post Graduate Diplomas.

Fee for Foreign Students/NRIs

A development fee of 100 US$ per semester (or 200 US dollars per annum as the case may be) will be payable by the foreign students/NRIs in addition to the above mentioned fees. Relaxation in the requirement of marks for Reserved Categories of candidates for deciding the eligibility

Candidates belinging to SCs and STs will be allowed 5% relaxation of marks in the minimum eligibility requirement. Physically Handicallped (PH) will also be allowed 5% relaxation of marks in the minimum requirement.
