Hon'ble Mr.
Justice K.G. Balakrishnan
Chief Justice of India |
 |
Hon'ble
Justice K.G. Balakrishnan is the new President of the Indian Law Institute from
January 14, 2007.
He had his education in various educational institutions in Kerala. The first
rank holder of the Kerala University
in LL.M. Examinations of 1971 he joined the District Judiciary in 1973 after a
short stint of practice. Later he resigned
from the district Judiciary to join the Bar again. But destiny had him as a
judge of the High Court of Kerala in 1985.
He has had opportunities later to function as Chief Justice of the Gujarat and
Madras High Courts.
Justice Balakrishnan thus brought with him the rich experience to the Supreme
Court when he was elevated
to the Supreme Court in 2000. He is known for his simplicity, humility and
scholarship. A staunch supporter of
the weak and the meek, champion of Social Justice and Rule of Law, Justice
Balakrishnan stands for the values,
which the Indian Legal System is designed to protect. His decisions signify his
legal acumen in analyzing and
resolving the issues that are brought to the Supreme Court for resolution. He
has left his imprint wherever he
worked. Under his stewardship NALSA has become quite relevant and effective. It
has recently extended its
activities. Justice Balakrishnan has had enough opportunities to actively
associate with various international
and national organizations. He has visited many countries and participated in
many international meets.
